My mercury cougars speedometer is not working its a 2000

I have a 2000 mercury cougar v6 2.5 and I took a 99 out and put it in and nothing worked the gas gauge didn’t work on the main gauges and put the 99 in and nothing worked so I put the old one back in and nothing works on it now is there a way I can get it back working
