Question type: Maintenance & Repair

had car up on ramps and heard a loud pop and lowered the car off the ramps
and went to spray belt dressing on the belt and the tensioner pulley proceeded
to come apart and throw the serpentine belt. the spring is exposed forcing
outward pressure toward the chassis. i bought a new pulley AND new belt and
even went to advanced auto parts to rent the tool to get in between the
chassis but of course it didn't come with a thin 10mm socket and a traditional
10mm socket is too wide. how do i get this thing off?

I'd use a 6 point box end 10 mm wrench and take another wrench to use as leverage

i cant get it in there because for one the tensioner pulley and spring are pushing out towards the chassis and 2 because it has an indention where a regular wrench wont fit. im thinking about getting my dremmel and cutting out the pulley or maybe even cutting the spring out so theres not pressure anymore

How about something you can use as a pry bar to compress the spring and get the socket in

If you can make enough room to get a socket in there you could use vice grips to turn it

If a modern serpentine belt makes noise that indicates a problem. Belt dressing is NOT the answer.

I agree with the pry bar, compress the spring back in and since it already is broken apart, work the front plate out of the way and the spring will just pop out. I'm sure the bolt is snapped or broken. You might have to drill it out. Wear safety glasses and be careful.
