Are the starters compatible with a different engine

I have a 4.0l v6 sohc engine and I needed a new starter and
I thought I got the sohc one but I got th4 one for a 4.0l v6
ohv engine, can I still use it

yes, they are the same as long as you got the right one for the automatic and or manual transmission, as they are different.
