1998 Ford Explorer rear WINDOW lift strut (not the GATE struts) connecters.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On my 1998 Ford Explorer, the top of the rear WINDOW lift struts (not the
GATE struts) connects, using the two outermost holes in the rear window.
About 6 inches down, on the edges.  I need the connectors (2) that connect
to the top of the strut, and then bolts through the holes in the rear window.  I
checked the local junk yard and found that on numerous vehicles, they were
rusted beyond being salvageable.  I checked with Ford and they are no
longer available.  Do you have a pair of these connectors, that aren't rusty?

Have you checked the many internet parts stores? Short of junk yards, they are a good source of supply.

I have a 99 and mine were in bad condition, or they outwardly looked that way. They're actually pretty sturdy. What I did with mine was I raised the window to the up position and used a very small paint brush and applied naval jelly to it to dissolve the surface rust. Leave it set for a while and clean it off. (DO NOT GET ANY ON THE PAINT) You may have to do this a couple of times. Clean thoroughly with alcohol then water and let dry. Mask, prime and paint with rustoleum spray (I used black).

Thanks, I'll see what I can find. I'm going to try soaking my old connectors in penetrating oil. If that works, I'm all set.
