How to run dash cam without draining battery

From what I can tell, the 12v cigarette lighter stays powered even when the car
is off. I know myself well enough to know that I will not remember to unplug the
cam every time I exit the car. Is there another solution other than somehow
hard wiring the cam to the engine? Does the USB port stay on as well?

Install a power outlet that is switched off when the key is off. An decent mechanic familiar with auto electrical can do it easily.
