2008 Dodge Charger R/T dealer said engine is seized

Asked by Br0shambo Aug 14, 2019 at 11:30 PM about the 2008 Dodge Charger RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was driving and then car started sputtering and when
giving it gas it was sputtering even more. Car died about
100 ft later and I pulled over. A red lightning bolt with
opposing parenthesis came on along with check engine
light. After stalling it tried to turn over but nothing. After 5
minutes or so I tried again and it wanted to turn over but
before it turned on I stopped just in case.

I towed it to the local Dodge dealership and a week later
they told me three technicians and a head foreman looked
at it. They couldn't get the engine to turn over to diagnose
it, there was no coolant and that my engine was seized.
They said the car looked like it has overheated several
times.

My car has never overheated, nor smelled of antifreeze,
and no signs of leakage. I feel like I would have found out
really quick if I'd blown a head gasket on the side of the
road. I got my oil changed a month ago at a shop that
does a 22 point inspection. And two weeks ago got my
A/C recharged. Prior to this incident I had no lights on
dash or symptoms of overheating. I have had many cars
overheat before and hate the smell of antifreeze. I feel like
it would have overheated prior to this incident if I had no
coolant. Car has always been serviced regularly and no
issues other than a fuel pump in June.

I am picking up the car tomorrow and will try to hand crank
it over. Does anyone have any insight on this? I figured car
had just gone into limp mode, but now my mind is blown...
still owe 8k on it.

1 Answer

Limp mode will not stop the engine from turning over. Remove all the spark plugs and give it a go.
