I have the same issue with my 2011 Sorento. The dealer charged $100 for a diagnostics fee and then $2500 estimate to repair the sensor. The service mgr refused to give me a number or source of someone higher to talk about this and further said airbags are not a necessity. Front door knob broke off, both front headrests broke and no airbags. Kia does not service cars on Saturday except for oil changes and does not provide loaners during service. My car is toast. Kia’s record is making it a difficult case to consider a future relationship with them.

Interesting. We have a 2011 Kia Sorento too. Same issue just started. They say we need a new sensor & spring. Seems like this might be a recall issue soon. We were told $600 just for parts from Kia. That's crazy. They need to rectify this issue. Sadly is is not covered under our extended warranty. Our private mechanic did not charge us to run the code.

both the air bag spring and exterior door handles had extended warranty for 15 years unlimited miles might want to look into the service notices for this make and model
