I recommend every 5,000 miles regardless of what your owners manual or the dash gadget says. I keep my cars for the long haul. Long oil change intervals are fine if you trade in your car every couple of years.
I like 7,500 miles or once a year. If you do lots of city or stop and go driving I would step it up to 5,000 miles or once a year.
