Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1999 ford ranger  3.0  friend of mine  has got
the engine  hot and blew the head gaskets
and  I replaced the n for him and the engine
turns over tries to start but won't and when I
push accelerator to floor it turns over  a few
times and  backfires through intake  and
starts  hitting  hard spots while turning  over
some one told me it could have jumped
time or stretched the chain  fire ing order is
correct and I also tried  unhooking the mad
sensor and tried to get the  truck  to start

It is either timing (valve or ignition), spark plug wires mixed up or an issue with an intake valve. I would start with a compression test.

Thanks guys I am checking every thing over and I have pulled the timing cover and chain has some slack like a 1/4 turn on crank before the cam moves is this bad enough to cause the issues I have? Open for all suggested ideas
