is the oil pump bad?

Asked by GuruMPRZ5 May 26, 2020 at 09:20 AM about the 1993 Toyota Corona Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a toyota corona st190 4s engine 1993 model.  Oil light flickers, metal
rattling noise when starting and then subsides along with the oil light...but
flickers and stays off most of the time.  mechanic says its not the oil filter
(changed it anyway) but the oil pump may be losing pressure.  Not the
sensor switch he says as oil light would stay on all the time...and not go off
or flicker.
Does not know if there is another oil filter inside the oil pump...
any suggestions please?

solved the problem. cleaned the oil pan and filter in there...removed all oil sludge. replaced oil and started the car. All fine. Oil light goes off immediately and no more noise...driving normally now...
