I've just bought a 2017 Honda Civic EX-L with Navigation. I ended up getting an extended warranty for 7 years/75K miles for $2K as well. Was it worth it?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Now I want to cancel because it is another additional 2000 dollars on the car's
overall price and I'm not that rich and this was already an expensive car for me
that I waited to get until I got a discount on it. I traded in my old car, too,
getting far below its market value; but the overall loan I ended up with is still
the same, because of the 2K addition of this extended warranty (on top of the
standard 3-year warranty) which I will be paying for the next 5 years (it will add
up, and I already have a bunch of monthly payments that are all putting a dent
in my humble salary). I am having the buyer's remorse; texted my sales person
(who didn't do the paperwork himself but supported my getting the warranty
too badly) that I want to cancel it and asked for the procedures to do so. I
regret that I wasn't able to do this while I was there. I actually tried once but
once again the sales person really took his time explaining why I should really
really go for it and I would be doing the right thing by getting it. What do you
think about these warranties? I tried bringing up the reliability of Hondas and
that that was why I buying a Honda. And they bring the there is all this
technology in these cars now" and they are computerized and computers
break, and they are expensive to fix. WTH? Does that mean we shouldn't rely
on Hondas anymore? I'd be too disappointed if this car broke down after its 3-
year standard warranty expires. Thanks for opinions. Also please let me know
if these are actually cancellable, and how I should go about canceling, if you
have experience. Thanks.

Thanks, Tom. They added it to my sale contract on top of the overall price so that it's added to my monthly payment. Can I still cancel it? I've texted and emailed my sales associate, who is supposed to be my contact about anything about this car. We'll see what they do. Sigh. I so regret falling for it and not being more assertive with them, when I asked to cancel it once. I hope there is still a chance to revise the paperwork.

Yeah. :( I've just got the car and signed the contract today. I hope it's not too late. Tomorrow is Sunday, and maybe they weren't able to run the loan yet. I can only hope. The loan will be through Honda based on their promotional apr rates.

I don’t buy extended warranties either due to buying the right car to begin with. Hondas are good cars and outlast the warranty. These extended warranties do not payout when you need them either. I had to get a lawyer once just to get a dealership to fix an issue I had many years ago (one of the reasons i became auto savvy). If you bought a Hyundai or Kia you would of needed an extended warranty.
