The Hybrid warranty on 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid transferable to second owners

Asked by Tu Jun 29, 2022 at 11:27 PM about the 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE AWD

Question type: General

This 2017 Toyota RAV4 hybrid was originally purchased on April 8, 2017 in
Pennsylvania.  It was sold via auction in May 2022.  I purchased it on June 25,
2022 from Deluxe Auto in Los Angeles, CA.  I wonder if the 8 years / 100,000
miles warranty on hybrid battery and hybrid components are transferable to
me as second owner of this vehicle since the car has only 56,000 miles.

Check with Toyota Customer Service, not your local Dealer. If you have the warranty booklet you can look at that too. Or perhaps download a copy of the warranty booklet from Toyota's website. I quickly skimmed through it and I don't see anything that says the warranty is not transferable. You can also call Toyota's Customer Service Department with your VIN. Warranty coverage also varies depending on where you live. You stated that the vehicle was originally delivered to Pennsylvania and you bought it in California. This should not be a problem because in 2017 Pennsylvania was under California Emissions Standards. The warranty booklet points that out. So if you're having trouble getting the vehicle to pass inspection in California, they need to do their homework. Your Toyota is CARB compliant! But if the vehicle was a total loss or has a salvage title history the warranty is void. If the problem with the hybrid system is due to an accident the warranty won't cover that either. Since the vehicle was a very late model and sold at auction, I'd suspect it has a jaded past and will not be covered by the new vehicle warranty. I hope you got a vehicle history report before you bought it. There's probably a reason why it went to the auction when it was traded in May of this year. Hope that helps! Jim
