Why won't my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Move?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 will start up and run but when shifting into drive
every gear feels like the truck is in neutral. I was driving the truck and the gears
seemed to go out with no hard shifting or any weird noises. I've checked the
fluid levels, replaced the transmission, checked the transfer case and still no
luck. Has anyone ever had this happen?

Yes, has happened to my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500, after replacing a few gadgets and filters I finally figured it out, thanks to the internet, and I'm back to answer the question on this particular problem, since there are hardly anyone answering these questions. Your vehicle maybe in Recreational towing mode on your 2 / 4 wheel selector switch. Check to see if you have a red glowing light "N" on it, if so, your vehicle many have went into this mode by itself. I know I didn't put it on this. Putting your vehicle's automatic or manual tranny in neutral and not putting your 2/4 wheel selector switch on neutral can damage your tranny, so the "N" with a place / hole can be pushed with a pin. To disengage and get rid of the red lighted "N," follow your vehicle's manual, under Recreational Towing. 1. hold your brakes down, 2. turn key on but not starting motor, 4. put shifter into neutral, 5. push electronic "N" button with a pin/pen, etc. until the red light goes out, turn key off and your vehicle should be alright to go now.

I have a 2006 RAM 1500 slt 4x4 hemi and today it would not move in any direction in any of the gears. It was the answer given above by guruGRYND that solved the problem. Yes, the N on the 2/4 selector knob was glowing red. Following guruGRYND’s instructions resolved the issue. Now I am a happy motorist zipping down the highway again AND it didn’t cost me a dime. Thanks guruGRYND!!! Thanks interweb!!! And thank you little voice in my head that kept suggesting I keep reading through this thread. And thank me for not getting angry and going all hillbilly redneck and not being able to hear the guidance. Life is GOOD!!! God always takes care of us. Listening for and to that still small voice always leads to the highest good for all involved!!!!!! That’s how you know it’s God talking to you!!!! The end results are good for all involved. Have a blessed day, y’all.
