Oil issue

Asked by SorentoOwner46 May 20, 2019 at 04:33 PM about the 2017 Kia Sorento LX FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Today I was driving to work and upon arrival
I saw my oil light flash on. So, I decided to
check my oil on my 2017 (35,800 miles)
Sorento and it was bone dry. Took it in, they
found no leaks. Saying now they want to do
a oil consumption test. So I have to take it
back when I drive it for 1,000 miles so they
can check how much oil is getting
consumed. After reading all these post, I'm
thinking come tomorrow,  I am going to call
Kia manufacturer and let them know what's
going on and see about getting something
done to resolve this issue. I have kids of my
own and I am a Nanny who car pools kids
around. I dont need the added responsibility
of something happening to kids while I am
driving what could potentially be a
hazardous vehicle. From the sounds of it,
Kia is telling all service (maintenance) to
perform these consumption tests and after
they receive xxx amount they can do another
recall??

I have a 17 kia sorento 2.4L engine same issue. One day I figured I would check the oil and it was almost not on the dipstick 45,000 miles. How did you make out reporting it 2 kia?

I have a 2017 as well. I recently took it in for an oil change and it didn't register on the dipstick! I had my oil changed and a week later I had to add a half quart! Now my husband has been checking it regularly every week and always has to add some. I'm thinking I'll just trade it in because my 50K warranty just expired

kia has a major oil gasket problem`s with their Hyundai as well. Oil pan gaskets,Oil filter O rings, Oil guague sending unit O rings. Which means you will lose a Motor sooner then later. To bad. Nice vehicle if it wasn`t for that. if you have a one of these vehicle always check the area where you park it after you move it and see if their is oil in that spot.

I also have a 2017 KIA sorento at 88,xxx miles it was bone dry. Now at 98,xxx miles its bone dry again. Of course not one place I took it to recorded that it was dry. No light came on the first time. 1 flick of the oil light came on for a split second. So I checked it... bone dry. 1 qt barely registered, 2 got it above low, 3 got it to middle of low and full. I have 100k warranty but I have a feeling no one is going to help me. Going in tomorrow 3/30/2021. Ill let you know what they say. PCV? Gaskets? Rods? Spacing? Who knows... talk to you soon! I have a 2017 Kia Sorento. Had the oil changed a 40,000 miles and 900 miles later, I was down half a quart. Dealer and KIA North America said this was normal for the GDI engine. We agreed to perform an oil consumption test. Dealer topped off the oil and I drove it another 1100 miles. Came back for a dip stick check and the oil level was down 3/4 quart. Again, within standards per KIA. No leaks. Oil is getting into the pistons and is being burned. Something to do with the seals breaking down. SO, KIA admits there is a problem however they refuse to honor their warranty until the oil burn meets / exceeds one quart per 1000 miles. They have a fix but will not implement it. I have to keep a quart of 5W20 synthetic blend with me all the time now. Disappointing from KIA.

We were needing to add oil to our 2015 Kia Sorento at the end of summer and early fall 2021. We knew that the year of our Kia fit within the limits to get a new engine, but were told by Kia that it totally had to go out on its own before it could be replaced. Well, we were about 20 or so miles from home, passed a vehicle, and then suddenly could put the gas pedal to the floor and barely go. We made it back home by going about 5 miles per hour up the hills (live in Appalachia area) and gliding down them. In October, we had the new engine put in. Within a few days, the service engine light came on and we hooked it up for it to state catalytic converter. My husband put cleaner in it, the light went off, and it ran fine until May 2022. I tried to speed up, put the gas to the floor and could barely go 5 mph. No light came on. Luckily we were told it was the cheaper of the two catalytic converters. We immediately went to get an oil change. We replaced the cheaper catalytic converter only to have the same issue within a week of having it fixed. This time we were told the more expensive one was probably mucking up the new one already. We have to get a diagnosis from a Kia dealership in order to inform Kia Motors anything at all about it. We are looking at possibly thousands in repair. Our 2007 Sorento has over 220,000 and is sooooo much better than this vehicle; but nonetheless, we will not be buying another one.
