Same problem with another 2017 Ford Escape. The drivers side rear door trim panel separates from the door, which keeps you from opening the door. We have taken it to the dealership and then have popped the panel back in, however it continues to pull apart. I suspect that once this happens, that the retaining clips are getting worn and will need to be replaced to stop if from occurring. It is going back to the dealership for them to look at it.

I am having this problem with my passenger side rear door. The door panel separates from the door. I have taken it to the dealership 3 times now (within a week). The first time they popped it back in to place. The second time they replaced the clips and said I was good to go. The third time they said we will just have to replace the panel, which is not covered under warranty. Not happy with this, as I have had several other issues with the car as well.

My 2014 ecoboost doesnt want to open both back doors without pulling panel nearly off. Seems like a recall should be in effect as this is dangerous.

I’m taking my 14 Escape in tomorrow for both rear doors . After panels fell off after door lock recall, panels and hardware were replaced, panels fell off again and hardware replaced again. Repeated again. After recall it lasted about a year. Last fix lasted 10 days. Fifth time panels have been reinstalled in two years. Has anyone found a permanent fix? BTW, I’ve had many subpar cars, but this is the first one the door panels fall off regularly.

I’m trading my 2014 Escape Titanium for an Acura RDX. Fucking pathetic Ford. You had me. All you had to do was keep the inside Rear door panels from falling off. You managed it on the 62 Falcon and 96 Contour I owned. Yet on Escapes of all ages, including my 14 they fall off. I plan to replace the car before they fall off again.

Ford issued a recall for something I can’t remember exactly what it was I want to say it was the locking mechanism or maybe the door handles awhile back..all of these issues are due to techs just ripping the panels off incorrectly and damaging the panel while they fixed whatever the recall was..enough of us are all having the exact same issue that a class action should be around the corner followed by a recall to replace the damaged door cards... if I had to guess it’ll be just like the “coolant recall” and instead of fixing the issue it’ll be a bandaid until your driving around with the panels off/ adding coolant every three days when it’s not leaking or smoking.

I have a 2013 Ford Escape and the drivers side rear panel comes off and jams and won’t let me open sometimes. The more humid it is outside the harder it is for me to open the door. If it is cooler outside the door panel stays on.

I also have a 2013 Ford Escape with a loose rear door panel that causes the door to stick closed. The local Ford dealer recently quoted me a price of $700 to fix it for one door! Instead I fixed it with thin rope and a couple of washers - see attached photo. I drilled a couple holes thru the door panel. There is a Youtube video that shows you how to remove the door panel - https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=N4Pi1iDwijo&list=PLiSguoVUB116Je0sE_jfPLyUFDnGIsMz4&index=4&t=0s

I just bought a 2018 Ford Escape and the drivers side rear door panel came loose when opening that door. I popped it back in but it happened again. I am going to take a loss and trade it in on a Toyota RAV-4 (Ford POSh_t!!!).

Ford has redesigned the plastic door pins to counter this problem. Go to your nearest Ford dealership and talk to them about this issue in the TSB out on the vehicle.

Peyton- the TSB you reference (TSB 14-0004) is helpful for those with older (2013-2014) Escapes, but does not reference the newer Escapes (2017-2018) that are having a similar problem. Sadly, I still dont see any recall or TSB related to door panel trim for the 2017 or 2018's I think Ford is hoping that folks will just drive some self tapping screws thru the trim, into the frame and leave them alone. :)

Peyton. They put the new design pins on my Escape when they replaced the panels. Still fell off. POS design.

I can't deny that Jeff. The door panel is most likely just to big for the opening in the cabin. Poor design due to lack of testing. Quality of vehicles has suffered majorly while prices rise.

Same here.. 2017 Escape Titanium both driver door and rear driver side door exhibit this issue. To the point of exiting the vehicle safely in a time limited way is impossible. Further, I just want to rip the thing off all together cause it makes me so mad. BUT -- I haven't yet turned into the Incredible Hulk - so no hulk-smash moments

Had this happen today on my Ford Escape 2014 Titanium. Found this useful video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaP7DcfkJ9g They claim the Lincoln door panel clips, Lincoln Part # W713727S300 Qty 8 work better than the re-configured Ford clips. They run $4 each. $32 beats Ford's $700 fix. Lincoln dealership had 8 in stock, so I'm going to try it out.

I followed the above referenced video from Youtuber MJ00K titled: "Ford Escape door panel loose and sticks EASY DIY Repair 2013" He walks thru where and how to get out all screws and pins. Once apart, I realized that the issue is a trifecta: weak plastic clips, a poorly held together center section that sags over time, and a trim panel that is just too tight to the frame. I replaced all the plastic clips with the Lincoln part number John mentioned above. I also realized when I had the panel off, that i could connect a couple long zip ties together and add some reinforcement to the trim panel that would help it not sag as much. I then reassembled and when I was all done, i gently tapped on the doorframe gasket with a rubber mallet (to make sure that it was seated all the way) and then I wiped the door panel and the frame gaskets with some Armor All. Three months and so far all is well. If it continues to happen, then the only thing to do is to replace the entire panel.
