What is causing a blown fuse?

Asked by kftous Jan 25, 2017 at 08:42 AM about the 2000 Ford Ranger XLT Extended Cab Stepside SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2000 Ranger has a 3.0 V6.  The No 4 cylinder is not firing.  When I shift into gear (forward or reverse) it feels like it's running on 3 cylinders, the transmission shift hard and I can barely keep it running.  We found a blown 15A fuse that controls the Heated Oxygen Sensor, EGR, Vacuum Regulator, EVR Solenoid, Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) and the Canister Vent Solenoid.  When we replaced it, the truck ran perfect.  The fuse kept blowing during test rides and we cannot find the cause.  Until we find the cause, I have to pull over and change the fuse when it blows.  Can you help?

Check the O2 sensor wiring near the exhaust manifold and pipes. The wiring may have gotten against the exhaust and shorted out.

I have a similar problem blowing 4 fuses. It's like Back to the Future "one pellet [fuse, unless I want indicators to work, then 2} one trip." Same problem but with: Inside fuse box: No. 13 (20A) Brake Pedal Position Switch No. 21 (15A) Flasher (Hazard) Hood: No. 5 (15A) Trailer tow park lamps (not used, no direct shorts there) No. 13 (15) Clusterfuck emissions: Heated O2 sensor, EGR vacuum regulator, EVR solenoid, camshaft position sensor, canister vent solenoid Checking the codes, it's only confirming the circuit 13 hood has blown (p0176, p1451, p0135, p0141, p015, p1409)
