2004 Mazda 6 Sport Security Key Light Issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car worked fine, no prior dimming lights or signs of battery drainage, then
came out to start it and nothing. At first not even dash lights, no click, no
turn, nothing.  Thought it was the battery.  Friend tried to jump it.  Got dash
lights, and sounds, blower everything and now security key light flashes.
Lights will now come on and will get a solenoid click but nothing.  Battery has
been removed and fully charged and tested fine.  Even put in new battery to
check for changes. still the same.  With a 2004 my fob to open the car is
separate from the key itself.  I did notice that it would work to unlock the car
most of the time, on occasion it doesn't.  Could this be a grounding issue?  I
really do not want to take it to a Mazda dealership.  I tried some of the posts
on the web about leaving it in the door with key turned so many times and
letting it sit in the ignition in on phase for 5 to 10 min .none of that worked
either.  ugh any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Wow. Scan for trouble codes. Look for loose ground wires, battery cables and have the starter, solenoid and it's relay checked out. Might be something going on in the ignition switch too.

ok.. thank you. Friend is going to check battery cables..there is some corrosion. Since the fob is separate from the key itself. I know the key has a chip in it but does the key then also contain a battery? They dont do they? just the fob?

Since the fob is separate from the key itself.. would the fob matter? I can unlock the door and start the car without the fob before.. Just making sure I understand because i have had a couple people mention that but I thought maybe they thought the fob to unlock the car and the key were one in the same as with all the newer cars.

Ok.. I did try and talk to them and they won't talk to me at all until I bring the car in. and service lady won't let me speak to a mechanic. The Mazda dealership is 20 miles away and over $100 a tow. Kind of at the place of needing it to run but not wanting to put more money into it than what it is worth, so trying to troubleshoot a little with a mechanic friend first.
