Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It has been 5 days since we replaced the starter in my daughter's car. She
drove to work without any indication of problems and then when she came
out after work the car would not start. The headlights don't work (high nor
low beam), The brake lights don't work. There is no sound that comes from
turning the key in the ignition. Also the gearshift won't come out of park
even with a foot on the brake and the ignition in the on position. The button
on the side will not depress and the gearshift warning signal continues to
sound except when the manual switch is depressed to move the gearshift.
As soon as it is back in park it has to be manually released again to move
it.

The radio, interior lights, and parking lights work.  We have checked the
fuses and the battery has been tested and found to be good and the
terminals are clean and have a good connection.

Any thoughts on what to check next, would be awesome and appreciated.

Yes, 17 years old check ALL ground connections the most common and over looked problem area. I suggest a starter voltage drop test.. determine if there are any high resistance wires.
