Timing belt on a 2000 hyundai accent with a 1.5

Freind installed a new belt the old one didn't have
the grooves. Left and it ran good before it stoped
and he said he had to put new belt on to turn the
cam to timing marks but then had to pull belt off
crank to get crank on mark and now it kinds back
fires but doesn't sound like their isn't any
compression what do I do to fix it so it will run

Sounds like bent valves from timing marks not properly aligned

If it sounds like it is back firing you have bent valves. Sorry to inform you of this but it's the truth ..the 1.5 liter Hyundai engine is interfience engine meaning if the timing belt breaks or slips you will have the pistons and valves hit each other causing major damage

Sorry to inform you of this but it's the truth ..the 1.5 liter Hyundai engine is interfience engine meaning if the timing belt breaks or slips you will have the pistons and valves hit each other causing major damage and reason sounds like no compression is most likely a valve or valves are very bent , hole in piston , or valves broken off completely or both..so yes engine can't get compression when the cylinder can't seal do to hole in piston or valves bent it lets the compression stoke let gasses go into block or rite out opening in valve
