Pulleys

Asked by Ronnie Feb 02, 2017 at 12:51 PM about the 2002 Hyundai Accent GS 2-Door Hatchback FWD

Question type: General

I  have a 2002 Hyundai Accent GS and this morning
the people at AutoZone said that my AC
compressor pulley had seized up the AC
compressor pulley is connected to the idler pulley
and the belt snapped. Can I run this car or will I
further damage it I am trying  to figure out if I need
to have the car towed or can I drive it somewhere.
Next personal question is I also have a awesome
job interview today that can change my life so I
need to know if I will ruin this thing if I drive it down
the highway can somebody please help me I'm in
desperate need of an answer. I know that I
shouldn't run the car  with anything broken I'm
pretty logical in that sense but I want to know if
these to Pollys could cause me to further ruin
something else. Thank you for your help

I disagree with the previous answer and here is why: I had this same thing happen on my 2005 Hyundai Accent. Lucky for both of us, there is only one component being driven by that belt, the AC compressor. So you can run the car just fine without that belt on there. The AC won't work though (and your car will attempt to run the AC when you put on the defrost as well as the air conditioning but no harm is done). I ran my Accent like this for 6 months without a single problem. I then purchased a compressor on Amazon and had my Hyundai dealer put it on when I couldn't take the heat anymore.

Thank you! After I got the first answer I had a mechanic friend of mine come over and he told me exactly what you did in your response so I carried onto the job interview and got the job!! Thanks so much for everyone's help!!
