Car cranks but won't start.

Asked by GuruZ4741 Oct 06, 2017 at 08:22 PM about the 2004 Hyundai Sonata V6 GLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Hyundai Sonata 4 cylinders
& I just replaced the alternator belt / starter
& battery about a month ago & a few
weeks ago my engine completely stopped
while driving and my steering wheel
locked. So I had a friend replace the timing
belt and we still are getting nothing but a
crank & no start. Any ideas on what else it
could possibly be ?

Need to check for spark and check to see if there is the proper fuel pressure. Spraying some starting fluid into the air horn and it starts up would then indicate a fuel problem. A scanner should be hooked up to see if there are any codes also that may affect starting.

A month or two back my Sonata wouldn't start. It turned over but wouldn't start. I started going over the usual things like checking fuses and relays etc. I also put the battery on charge whilst doing this as I had cranked the motor quite a few time. I eventually found the plug into the crank sensor was not properly engaged. After I inserted the plug in properly. I cranked the engine and it started straight away. Problem solved. Today I went to start my car after being away for more than a month. The car wouldn't start. As before the car turned over no problem but It wouldn't start. After reading a report saying these cars need a high voltage at the coil pack to start the car. I put the battery on charge for an hour or so. I then turned the engine over and hey presto the engine burst into life. These cars obviously need the battery to be in tip top condition or your going to have trouble starting even though the engine turns over fine.
