How to stop rain leak at door frame

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driver's side read door frame is bent and allowing rain to leak in. Short of fixing the bend, any other suggestions on how to keep the rain out? Can't afford to get body work done, sadly. Long story. I thought I saw some rain gutter type things somewhere, that adhere *above* the door.  Can't find such things now. The shades / rain guards that affix above the window, but below the door opening will not work.  Do you have any ideas what to do?  The back seat gets moldy pretty quickly and we're going into winter. No garage. Only has 39,820 original miles on it! It was my mom's.

Did you try "tweaking" the door? Do this. Roll the window down with the door open grab the top of the frame put your knee against the door skin and horse on it you've got nothing to loose don't bend too far.

Thank you Mike. I'll try that. The dent causing the problem is not readily visible. On first glance one wouldn't think there was any damage to that door. I was t-boned on that side, but both cars were barely moving so it didn't appear there was any damage! This was 2 years ago an it just recently began the leaking. To do what you suggest, I'll have to knee the inside of the door. There is no dent on the outside on the lower part. I'll let you know what happens! Thanks again. :)

As you torque on the door you can check it with a garden hose.

Hi again Mike! Well your suggestion combined with one other addition solved the problem nicely! My hubster tweaked the door just a tad more. He said our beloved auto body guy where we used to live had already tweaked it like that, but turns out just not quite enough. In addition to that, I did find some extruded (rubberish) drains that we attached just above the door opening (we did both sides for the sake of symmetry! LOL) and voila! No more leak! Thank you so very much!! Here you are -- your success story! :) Kathy
