Engine Swaps

Asked by Terasuu Dec 21, 2018 at 01:07 PM about the 1991 Honda Civic Si Hatchback

Question type: General

Would it be a smart idea to swap my 1.5 b16 engine and the trans off of my
1991 Honda civic EF SI Hatchback into the shell of a integra? How much would
it cost if i were to do it myself, or would it be easier to take it to a shop?

Not a Honda expert here so can only suggest you join a dedicated forum to older Hondas, and treat this as a major project. I'm sure similar swaps have been made by members on such forums, who often will post detailed write ups with pics. Do your research before making rash decisions. It would obviously be easier to take it to a shop, but also much more costly. Find out what's entailed in such a swap, what parts or kits may be needed, and what tools you'll need. If you need an engine hoist, take a few months to look on Craigslist and buy a used one (you can find those Harbor Freight ones there for half the cost), same for jack stands, engine standoffs, etc. Find sources for tools like torque wrenches, timing lights, local auto parts stores may even loan tools like that out. You almost certainly will want repair or factory manuals, either download them or buy them. Then expect to have it laid up for some time, this isn't a weekend project, if you can't tie up garage space for a few months reconsider starting a project like this.
