Spare tire

I recently had to change a flat tire on my Santa Fe. I was able to lower the
spare and change it with no problem. However, after I repaired the tire, I went
to put the spare back and it will not go back up under the car completely. The
tire is making contact with the underbody by the rear bumper and on the
forward side. I am not sure what to do. It's like the tire is too big to go up
where it is supposed to go.

I'm sorry. You will have to forgive my inability to visualize what you mean. Are you saying flip the tire over? The owners manual says to lay the tire down under the car with the valve stem facing up. I don't know how else to position it.
The car may have had 4 new, bigger tires put on the rims, but not the spare. The new, bigger tires may be too big to fit in the compartment. For example, the 4 wheels and 1 spare have tires that are all 225/65/16. The previous owner gets a blow out, or the tires rot, or for whatever reason, they get 4 new tires. They go with 245/65/16. These will fit the rims, fit the car, etc... but it won't fit up in the spare compartment. So, they leave it at the original size. You change it, and the... oh wait, I just reread the question, and I misunderstood it. Let me ask... did you get it repaired by buying a used tire? Did they put a larger tire on it? I think the Santa Fe has a tire with the 1st number as "225" for the spare. If its higher than that, this would be the issue. FYI you have to jack the car up kinda high to put the spare back, even though it may look like it would slide in without jacking it up much.
