2008 Subaru Impreza blower motor fuse

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Subaru Impreza I replace the motor
and the relay or resistor for the fan in the cabin but
it keeps blowing the blower motor fuse when I try
to adjust the fan speed even if I disconnect the
relay or resistor it still blows the fuse any
suggestions

Why would the relay blow the fuse? Also, I have a similar issue, where anytime the blower circuit is closed, the fuse blows. This fuse blows even without the blower connected, meaning: When I put a voltmeter on the blower power wires the fuse blows. Without the blower circuit closed, the fuse works fine, even allowing the defrosting rear window work. So... I would try to see if you get a similar result as me. Would be good to know if I should be looking elsewhere to solve this.

Sounds in your case an actual short in the blower SWITCH itself. The control panels are cheap used on eBay, and easy to install. Try that.

So how do you find the short? Because I've replaced alot. The blower. The resister, the relay. When I first started. I unplugged the blower motor and switched them over. And it didn't blow. So would that mean the short is somewhere in the circuit after the blower? Could it be a ground issue? Now when I pulled the blower motor resister it was corroded slightly... So I thought that was the thing. But after replacing that still nothing.

My car had exact same symptoms as yours, I put it in the dealership and they found a short in the wiring to the blower motor and they bypassed it

Right...but that's not BonBray's situation...so it's not likely to be a short, but perhaps an open in a connector.

So how to I find it? Right now I have basically ripped my dash off... Trying to get at the problem... I live in Colorado so I need a defroster and soon. Any advice?

Now that you have full access why not just a nice fat new 12AWG wire to the fan switch if you've no voltage there? First check that you've 12v at the fuse block, of course. Hell, you can hotwire your blower from the battery with an inline fuse if you want! Keep us apprised....
