It sounds like the crank position sensor is not allowing the injectors to fire.

10/28/18 - Thomas answer is better than my mechanics and everyone else. This is probably because it a sensor usually out of sight and out of mind. I have a 2002 Ford Taurus SES. It has about 203000 miles. I do a full tune up every season or every six months. It’s a work car, a work horse and I need it to run each time I crank my engine. It started to lose fuel pressure and died intermittently. It has a new fuel tank, sending unit and pump so although it’s failing to start most mechanics think it’s a faulty pump. The problem, I just got a fill up at the gas station and my tank is full. The last thing I want to do and then have to rule out is a working fuel pump. The hardest, but easiest thing to do is buy a new Crank Position Sensor and replace the old one which is 18 years old. Thanks Thomas! William Russell Moore
