what should i have done at the 40,000 mile maintenance

Every 30,000 to 40,000 miles the oxygen sensor should be checked. Also, Here is a link of things that should be inspected and replaced every 40,000 miles: http://www.trustmymechanic.com/40.html

bring it to the dealer might still have warranty on it and have the 40k mile check up.

your norm , oil,filter exc,exc .plus inspect timming belt,drive belts , serp belt , inspect brakes , cv axle boots, 40 k is pritty much an overall inspec point for any car
