Is Nursing Gas Tank Damaging?

Asked by 1m2w3s Jan 05, 2017 at 08:07 PM about the 2016 Honda CR-V Touring AWD

Question type: General

According to a previous answer, fuel nozzle clicks off when EVAP tube is reached.  On a brand new car, I find that I can nurse in up to 2 more gallons after first click-off.  Is doing so—rather than letting it alone and accepting shorter range between refueling— damaging something?

Yeah you could burn the fuel pump, they don't like to be driven dry.....always keep the tank at least a 1/4 full..

Running dry isn't the problem. Question is whether adding fuel after first nozzle click-off damages vapor capture system.

You could saturate the charcoal canister by doing that, shortening its life. When the pump initially shuts off, don't try to force more gas down the tank's filler neck. From your description though it sounds like your car is shutting off pump's nozzle too soon, so maybe the vent line is blocked or pinched?
