2016 Honda CRV brake fluid leak

Asked by GuruCTF1Y Feb 11, 2019 at 08:03 PM about the 2016 Honda CR-V SE AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Has anyone encountered this issue? I have to fill up the fluid every couple of weeks. The brake light comes on and the level is low. My mechanic doesn't know where the fluid is going, since there's no sign of a leak on the driveway or underside of the car. Only way to find out where the fluid is going is to pay $600 to pull out the master clinder. My car is only two years old with 45,000 miles and not under warranty anymore.

If it's losing fluid then it's leaking, plain and simple. Your brakes aren't used when the car is sitting parked overnight, so leaks in the lines or calipers may not be evident by puddles on the driveway, yet can leak when driving. Get the brakes pressure tested. It's also possible the MC is leaking into the brake booster, pull the hose between the two and look for wetness. Any hydraulic fluid that finds its way into the booster will damage it. BTW $600 to pull a MC is insane. You may want to look for another shop.
