Battery light

Asked by GuruSG8VK Jun 26, 2019 at 02:03 PM about the 2004 Honda Accord LX

Question type: General

Replaced my battery a week ago. Yesterday morning my car died while I was
driving. Jumped it, started right up but died immediately when I turned the
lights on (battery light came on). Replaced the alternator yesterday
(remanufactured/ adv. auto). Charged battery to full today, but battery light
came back on and meter shows battery slowly draining as it runs. What, other
than the cable assy or a bad "new" alternator can be causing this?

A bad ground to the alternator can also cause a leak in power and drains the battery

When the battery light comes on, it really means the alternator is not keeping up, allowing the battery to become discharged and appear dead when it's not. Go to an auto parts store and have them test the alternator and battery free. You will find a bad alternator, most likely. Or take a volt meter and test voltage at the battery. Should be about 12 volts, engine off, and jump up to 14 volts while the engine is running. If you don't get and increase after engine starts, it's a bad alternator. Or loose cables.
