2005 Honda pilot heater & a/c ducts not operating as set

Asked by Sean Feb 09, 2017 at 10:02 PM about the 2005 Honda Pilot LX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My climate controls are not being directed through the ducting as set by the
control knobs for certain spaces . I.e. I set heater to blow on my feet only ,
but that is about the only place heat doesn't blow out from.

Sounds like a HVAC Blend Door Actuator that is bad under the dash.

Check the 'box' duct actuator on the drivers side to the right and up from the gas pedal. If you see no movement as you select different climate settings take it out &( disconnect it from the linkages for the duct doors) w/o unplugging it and again select various settings if it works (moves) maybe the duct linkage is binding, if not take the actuator apartment clean the copper on the desk check that the plastic gears and stripped out or just replace it if you want to spend a bunch money usually you just clean it and it will be quite visible if it's wore out or not .

Also, when you take apart the actuator box all the little clips will probably break I just electrical tape the whole box back together no big dea, the screws hold down anyway and together . Try saving the old box 1st before you purchase a new one they're quite expensive and usually it's a minor cleaning or something obvious with the actuator box . Also just get underneath the dash don't take it apart you don't need to take the dash apart to do anything unless you want to really get in there and change the cabin air filter on the go box or something like that . The other actuator is on the passenger side almost mirror image of the other one but it's usually the driver side one that has the most usage . Good luck !

I had the same problem that Sean describes. I ordered a replacement actuator box and had it ready to, however after I disconnected the old one. I tested it as Sean suggested, and it still worked, so I sprayed some lube on all the pieces in site. Reassembled everything and seems to be working fine. Maybe something just got stuck or out of alignment.
