2003 Sonoma engine swap

Asked by oldbowler Jan 20, 2019 at 08:45 PM about the 2003 GMC Sonoma SLS ZR2 Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 2003 Sonoma ZR2 4x4. I would like to swap out the 4.3 engine for a V8. Which engine would be the best choice for this swap and do I need to swap out the trans also?

Any year Chevy small block should fit in the engine bay. I'm not sure if you would have to change the oil pan. Depends on what type of rig you're looking to build. There's a plethora of information on LS swaps out there that others have done though, as well as ideas on what direction you plan on taking your Sonoma. I would visit a number of the forums online. Probably your best bet. Good luck on your build!
