P0341 on 2005 Honda Accord 2.4L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Got a question...

Pulled out of my driveway yesterday and after about 2 minutes got a check engine light. Took it in and got a P0341 code. I have a brand new starter and I have no loss in power and my car is running just as it always has been. I get frequent oil changes and don't use old oil. What could be the problem?

I'm really hoping it's not a slipped or stretched timing chain, but it doesn't feel like that's the problem. Is this a simple fix or could something deeper be the problem?

Thanks!

P0341 HONDA - Camshaft Position Sensor Incorrect Phase Detected...Possible causes; Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor; Camshaft Position Sensor harness is open or shorted; Camshaft Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection; Faulty starter motor; Starting system circuit Dead (Weak) battery....Tech notes: A damaged or stretched cam chain, resulting from infrequent oil changes, can cause the MIL to come on with DTC P0341 (CMP sensor A and CKP sensor incorrect phase detected). Old oil causes the cam chain to wear quickly. As a result, it stretches beyond the point where the cam chain auto-tensioner can keep up. That extra chain slack causes the valve timing control (VTC) actuator and the exhaust camshaft sprocket to lag behind, and you wind up with DTC P0341.

Just got done fixing this code. Pull the valve cover and set so all timing marks align. There are two white marks on the crank pulley, the first lines up with a arrow on the timing chain cover and the other lines up with a dash looking mark on the cover. When that is set look at the cam gears and the two dashes on them should be facing each other. The arrow on the intake cam gear should be facing up. When aligned check the tensioner and the chain slack. The car I was working on the marks weren't aligned and the chain has excessive slack. The tensioner failed. I can't speak for everyone but I haven't seen this code and it not be a mechanical problem. By the way this is for the K24 engine. P0341
