I personally do not like doing a engine flush as it can eventually plug up oil passages. Especially in a old engine. Why would the mechanic want to do this? Also if the engine has ben taken care of threw the years with changing the oil, there should be no need to do this.

hello he said there is a lot of sludge buildup causing the car to get really hot so i do not know if this mechanic is just taking me for a ride of whats up.

Run some Seafoam in the oil for 100 miles, then change the oil.

Change the oil more often - maybe every 1,000 miles until the engine is clean. An oil filter is an excellent idea.

If the oil cooler is all sludged up it might be a good idea to change it out.

synthetic oil has detergents that will clean inside the engine without depriving it of lubrication, and if you can get some for a buck or so a quart it will help
