has horn and headlights, trunk release, no dash lights, cranking or starting

Asked by Michael Jul 21, 2022 at 01:46 PM about the 2016 Ford Focus SE

Question type: General

Went out of town for 2 months, came back to a dead battery. Tried to "boost-
start it with my battery charger and lost (almost) everything electrical. I have
no lights on the dash but the radio, emergency flashers and the horn works,
and the key fob (as well as the dash button) will release the trunk lock. I did
disconnect the battery which took a charge (only a year old), still the same
issue and I cannot get it out of “park” and I cannot update the time (won't
save the changes)

If the battery is only a year old, you should have a replacement warranty on it. Remove the battery and take it to an auto parts store so they can test it. It sounds as if you have a shorted cell.
