I'm in the market for a classic VW Beetle

I'm in the market for a classic VW Beetle. Looking between the years of mid
60s to early 70s in fair condition, no sunroof or convertible.We are okay with
doing minor work ourselves, but would like to avoid rust work like floor pans and
heater channels. Budget is around 4,000, but that also includes work that we
would need to do for improvements/maintenance to make is safe to drive. Is
that a reasonable budget? I feel like I've only been seeing ones in our budget
that need TONS of work, do I need to increase the budget or are things just
really over valued? Thank you

Collector car prices are very high and this causes people to ask absurd prices for junky cars. Good luck!

It it probably cheaper in the long run to pay more for a good car than to spend a lot of work and money fixing a bad but "cheap" car.

I agree, Fair means runs and drives but needs work through the car. A price point around $2500. It sounds more to me you would like one in good condition. Meaning no rust, runs and drives fine, but needs some mechanical or cosmetic work. Those are trending at least for a 1970 at around $5K. So you have to increase your budget. A beetle in very good condition is worth $8500.

Ditto. Pay more for a rust free car. Sheet metal repairs will break the bank.
