Can a high pitch squeal when breaking in reverse in a Rav4 be fixed?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2015 Rav4. When the car is cold and I am in reverse, the brakes give a high pitch squeal. I took it into the Toyota dealership for a six month check, I was told this is "normal" for a Rav4. I don't buy that.

Hello, I know this post is old, but I am experiencing a similar issue with my 2022 Rav4 XLE AWD that has less than 10,000 miles. I purchased the car in September 2023 and it had just over 4k miles, shortly after I noticed a noise when I reversed on inclines (I live on a hill and brakes were being used so I don't go flying). The noise is a little hard to explain. I describe it as if something is dragging under the car. Nonetheless I have had 3 cars prior to this and lived in the same neighborhood and have never heard this noise before (this is my first Toyota). Recently I started to hear the same noise when I apply the brakes period (stopping at stop signs and stop lights even on flat roads. Since I have never heard this noise on any other car, and the car has such low mileage I brought it to the dealer to get checked out. Since the noise happens when I brake, they did a full brake inspection and no surprises everything was fine since the mileage is so low. They replicated the noise by reversing on incline and explained to me that the noise is normal due to the way that brake pads/the whole brake system works. They also explained that noise is normal when you first start the car in the morning since it is cold and the noise will stop once the rotors are warmed up, however the noise is still present even when the rotors are plenty warmed up. I don't know much about cars but I know this is not "normal" for cars. Were you able to find a solution or do you still experience this noise?
