I have a hard time believing what people say when money could be involved. I would have to witness the oil change to believe the metal filings story. But it could be true, so I would get another oil change in a thousand miles at another shop and catch the oil in a pan for examination. In the mean time be thinking about trading it in, while continuing to drive it until it quits.

I would use a magnetic drain plug and keep driving it. You could send the oil out for analysis which would tell you the true story.

These are very helpful suggestions and advise that I will pursue before I spend $11,000.00 for a new engine. That’s what the dealer is quoting me.

I have had the N63 engine and have done everything I can to it. It finally died at 81k. BMW is offering replacements at 3300 but there is a 6 month waiting list now. I have been quoted 7k installed. Check around. it does have a 100k warranty when you buy it from BMW. Honestly, I am sad to say my car, at least, is worthless now and BMW doesn't care. I would call the regional manager with BMW in your area....

a 6 month waiting list??? my 2012 750 had "engine failure" in july with 59k miles on it, and has been at the dealer for almost 4 months now, waiting for the N63 engine which they have told me is 'backordered'. no one has been able to give me a sense of timing, so this is helpful. I bought the car CPO from this dealer, and had the 'customer care package' in 2015. the dealer told me that if they install the new engine, there is NO NEW warranty on the new engine. these cars are garbage.
