Charged dead battery but no electronics

Asked by Guru98H168 May 16, 2022 at 07:21 PM about the 2014 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Limited FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My daughter left her lights on overnight on her 2014  sonata. It’s the original
battery but it took a full charge. The electronics are still dead. The car was not
completely dead when discovered but by the time my husband got home and
put the charge on it it must have lost the remainder of it’s life. We have nothing!

You will need to test the battery, probe it with a multimeter, it should read 12.5V. But if it is original, the battery is on borrowed time. 8 years is the max I ever got out of battery, most don't last 5 years. Replace the battery, I suspect the current one can't hold a charge.

That battery is done! Original equipment batteries are expected to last about 3 years! Replace the battery first and go from there. The vehicle computer may need to be flashed (reprogrammed) by your local Dealer after you put the new battery in. Many newer vehicles must have the computers powered at all times or they lose their programming. Even during a battery replacement. Buy a memory saver device that can be plugged into your vehicles so the next time you have to replace a battery you won't have to worry about it. Hope that helps! Jim
