Question type: General

took truck in several months ago for oil change & loss of oil. oil light had
come on & when dip stick checked , no oil was registering. Had to add 3
quarts of oil. dealership could not find a leak. states possibility that they did
not calibrate
corr amt of oil when refilling last time. Could do oil consumption test every
1000 miles or just wait & see if light comes on again. well time for another
oil change & light comes on. check dip stick & truck is a quart & 1/2 low on
oil. added a quart & 1/2.

If there is no leak the engine is burning the oil. Engine wear is a possibility but make sure the PCV is working properly. If the dealer left your engine 3 quarts low there might be engine damage. Clearly you need to check your oil weekly and top it off. Keep a record of how much you add and the miles on the odometer when you add the oil.

My truck is not in the exact same thing. The dealership is putting me through a oil consumption test. They had to add 4 quarts within one oil change. Remember they only put a quarts in when they add oil back to your truck after an oil change. Have you found a solution to this problem?

I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado. I went through years of the deny, deflect, dismiss... with the oil consumption. I was always just shy of the required amount until it was out of warranty. They magically rebuilt the top part of the engine. Within days I noticed the truck was still consuming oil after the engine repair. The oil was getting into the cooling system and mixing with the antifreeze. According to the dealer, the two problems were unrelated and I was responsible for the cost of the repair to the cooling system. Now I had to replace the heater core and condenser. $2600. My question is; will oil in the cooling system cause the parts to fail prematurely?
