Honda CRV won't start on first try

My 2014 Honda CRV does not always start on the first (or sometimes
second and third) try. Dashboard lights come on, no sounds, no clicking, but
no engine crank. Will work fine and start up on the second, third or fourth try.
Problem is very intermittent and seems to have no real pattern. But, it never
fails to start on the first try after it sets in the garage overnight.
My mechanic changed the relay under the steering column and that seemed
to fix this problem for about a week, then the problem returned again.
