2014 dodge journey keyless entry

Asked by CassyT Jul 09, 2019 at 06:07 PM about the 2014 Dodge Journey SXT FWD

Question type: General

I just got a 21014 Dodge Journey and it's my first keyless entry system.  My
question is, is there any way to secure the doors with me and my keyfob inside
the vehicle.  Example, I'd like to go camping by sleeping in the back of the
Journey.  If I have my keyfob with me inside, can anyone pull open the doors
because the fob is within range?

You would need to shut down the passive entry. I believe it’s an option on the menu within your dashboard options

Great question... I'm just rigging up my Journey for camping and I never even thought of this! Will check my menu screen in the morning !

As an aside, a couple of related concerns I just did a search for 1) whether it's possible to be locked inside a car if the battery dies. I've come up against too many variables in the answers, but it sounds like it's probably not an issue, unless you use the fob to lock the doors when you're inside. Not really sure why anyone would do that anyway.. (ETA: I take that back... I suppose if one were curled up in the back in a sleeping bag and realized the doors were unlocked it might be tempting to use the fob) 2) whether there's a way to open the back hatch from the inside. An easy way would be nice, but is there an emergency option. I might need to contact the dealership and ask. Hopefully somebody in the forum has a definitive answer for either of those.

Good news bad news on the being locked inside if the vehicle battery dies. Good news, the rear passenger doors have different manual lock tabs than the front. While the front pull tabs are too short to pull when the door is locked the rear tabs are longer with grooves that can easily be gripped and pulled to manually unlock the door. The bad news is that if you're in a crash and the electrical is disabled you'd better hope your not hurt too bad to climb into the back seat to get out. I wonder if these pull tabs can be unscrewed like the old fashioned ones so the front tabs can be replaced with rear door tabs?
