Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I took a 2005 motor and put in a 2009 crown vic. the motor ran perfect in the 2005 but when I put it in the 2009 its stumbling on itself, no power, just all around runs like crap. Any suggestions cause im stumped.

Check your fuel pressure, also did you swap engine computer? It might need reflashing.

Even tho these are the same generation, Ford made many changes between model years, especially to the throttle body (believe that was in 05 or 06), changing to drive-by-wire, also in 09 all CVPIs were flex fuel. I had a 2010 and and 2003 CVPI, and saw that quite a bit was different between the two just in the throttle body alone. So I think the problem you have is you kept the 05's computer, but on the 09 motor, so the older computer isn't programmed correctly to run that motor. You might want to swap over ECUs and then have it reflashed to match your VIN and other specific details, probably the only place qualified to do this is at the dealer. swap over the ECU and let them know what's going on and see what they suggest.

There's a forum called crownvic.net, probably the only forum you'll ever need for police interceptors, although fordforum.com isn't bad either.

You can't put a 2005 ECM into a 2009. ( The brake module is paired with the VIN on the ECM(09-11), 2005 -2008 is completely different than the 09-11 version. The 05 also has a different intake, so you would have to install everything from your 09 motor onto the 05 motor. Plug a scan tool in and list what you see. Use cylinder contribution test to see, maybe you just have a misfire.

I have an 05 it's the only od ball the test platform for the throttle body change. You need a 2009 to 2011
