More than likely the bracket on the inside of the mirror has broken, this isn't fixable. These mirrors are a royal pain to take apart, you 'll need to pull the interior door panel off anyhow. Get a new mirror. You can find a new mirror online, try Franks Pontiac Parts. http://www.frankspontiacparts.com/usedparts/firebirdtransam3.htm

I can see the bracket and it is not broken, unless it is inside where the cables run through.

You have to take the mirror off to see the bracket he spoke about. I repaired mine with a 2 part epoxy that I got at Auto zone. The type that you have to knead together to mix the 2 parts
