Granny swap, can I keep it 4wd?

Putting a 2.5 with manual tranny 2wd into a 4.3
4wd automatic model of the same year (1989 s10)
I heard the output shafts are different but is there a
way to keep it 4wd?

No, the transmission must be 4x4 so that the transfer case will bolt on to the rear of it.
