89 ford ranger wants to stall

Asked by Zack Feb 26, 2021 at 11:43 AM about the 1989 Ford Ranger S Standard Cab 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 89 Ford Ranger but 4 cylinder 5 speed 4 wheel
drive. A while back someone hooked up battery backwards
which fried the battery, computer, and a couple fuses
which are all replaced now. The vehicle runs great at idle
but stalls after a while. When I try to take off it instantly
wants to die. (Yes I know how to drive a stick haha) also I
have to jump the starter solenoid to start it now, the
solenoid is brand new. When I turn the key over it draws
power so I believe the ignition is working correctly. Any
thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
