I just replaced the battery and the positive and negative connections if I'm correct I was just messing with my ignition switch and it started right up

My 2004 f/focus finally quit starting (turning on).It used to shut off completely while I was driving 65+mph on the passing lane in Hou.Tex.,..I had thougjt it was a loose battery cable,or just the battery was(is)too small. Finally,a mechanic told me after diagnosing it with a certain machine in 1 minute, the alternator was not good. The alternator has to at least put out 12.0 +volts so this small standard car will operate without shutting off, whether on the freeway or at the stoplight. As for your needing a jump to help start your car it is possible your altenator is not good or your battery is smaller than is required.Always check your battery cables, even for corrosion. I hope this helps.
