Overheating and losing water and antifreeze

Asked by NeedtoKnow52 Jun 19, 2018 at 11:57 AM about the 2003 Ford Focus ZX3

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Ford Focus ZX3. It is heating up because the water and
antifreexe are going someplace. I had the thermostat changed recently but it
is still doing it. I have driven it for about 1.5 to 2 weeks since getting the new
thermostat. That is what it was doing before I got the new thermostat. There
is never and leakage on the ground and none visible when looking under the
hood at the engine. It is due to go back in tomorrow but I am leary of the
issue being properly solved. Any ideas? What happens when water pump
goes bad?

If it has the internal water pump the water could be leaking down into the oil pan. You could pull the dipstick and see if there is moisture there or if it looks frothy. The other idea that there might be a head gasket issue and the water is being burned off and going out the exhaust. Usually white smoke can be seen. To verify a compression test on the cylinders would give proper confirmation.

What would make a 2012 Ford Focus heating system stop working? Yesterday all of a sudden hot air stopped blowing thru the vents.
