Overheating

Asked by Dylan Oct 26, 2017 at 12:17 AM about the 1992 Dodge Dakota LE Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 92 Dodge Dakota it doesn't have overdrive
because the switch it broken. I have tried replacing
multiple parts but my truck still overheats when I
drive it 10 miles or so. I cut the muffler off because
it was busted and the driver side exhaust manifold
glows red after driving about 5 miles. Any help in
finding the issue would be much appreciated.

you should not run it if it gets that hot , doesn't the temp. gauge soar ? check coolant level , thermostat , see if radiator is plugged , what does the exhaust look like ? look under the oil fill cap what do you see ?

Only gauge that works is the amp gauge. New thermostat replaced three times. I flushed the radiator. Under the oil fill cap has no oil in it however my dipstick says that it's full.

do the coolant fans come on ?, If it has over heated a few times I would think that motor is a goner

Only overheated once. I took the drive side exhaust manifold off and there is fire coming out of the valve. Could it be running rich?
