Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When driving as soon as you back off of the accelerator pedal the transmission
kicks out.
Is it a vacuum problem?

there may be a "kick down " linkage , a rod at the throttle on springs that goes to the tranny. or a vacuum line that varies the shift points for passing gear etc. More modern cars have the computer running everything

It's like the torque converter lost pressure when you lighten your foot on the pedal,as soon as you accelerate it kicks back in. I think I might have to flush trany an change filter. The car has been parked for 5 yrs

Are you saying the transmission appears to be out of gear? Probably due for a rebuild. Did you check the fluid level/color?

I just bought the car and and the trans fluid was not on the stick.I had to add 3 quarts. No visible leaks. The car had been parked for 5yrs.The car is in too nice of shape scrap, but I don't want to get into a money pit either. If it is just some simple fixes I'll put her on the road.It runs great just when you lighten your foot on the accelerator pedal it feels like you put it in neutral an if you give her more gas it's like you pulled it back in drive.
